13 Arrested Stemming From College Party Tradition

The school says any student that was arrested will have a hearing to explain their side of the story

Hundreds of college students partied in the Elmhurst area of Providence, Rhode Island, on Saturday night as part of an annual tradition among Providence College students to celebrate the new year.

Students know the party night as the "Golf Tournament." The idea is to visit 18 different houses and drink at all of them.

Thirteen arrests were made according to police. What started as a Providence College tradition has grown to include several other students from neighboring schools as well.

Providence College tells NBC 10 it hired nine police patrol officers for a detail but that extra backup was eventually needed.

The school says any student that was arrested will have a hearing to explain their side of the story.
