26 People Indicted, Guns, Drugs Seized in Investigation

Federal prosecutors say 26 people are facing charges and authorities seized more than two dozen guns and a significant amount of drugs during a series of raids in Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts.

U.S. Attorney Stephen Dambruch said Monday that many of those indicted are known members or associates of street gangs.

He says the indictments are the result of an 18-month Project Safe Neighborhoods investigation into illegal firearms and drug trafficking in the Providence area.

The search warrant executions by about 170 local, state and federal law enforcement officials that started in the pre-dawn hours last Thursday. They resulted in the seizure of firearms, including three AK-47 and two AR-15-style assault rifles, as well as fentanyl, crack cocaine, cocaine and crystal methamphetamine.
