8 People Displaced After Explosion, Fire Damages Condo Complex

A reported explosion and fire has severely damaged a building at a Westerly condominium complex and displaced eight residents.

Residents of the four-unit structure at the Morningside Condominium Complex reported hearing a loud bang around 4 a.m. Friday.

First responders helped everyone out of the building. The Westerly Sun reports that a firefighter was taken to the hospital for observation.

Two of the units appeared to be heavily damaged. The cause is not yet known.

The Providence Journal reports that the state fire marshal's office is investigating the incident and considers it suspicious because there is no gas in the building but there was a report of an explosion.

Members of the Drug Enforcement Administration were at the scene.
