At least 80 cats were pulled from a Charlestown, Rhode Island, home Monday afternoon.

The home on Columbia Heights Road is boarded up and is now condemned. According to necn affiliate WJAR, seven people were living there.

Officials say some of the cats inside were not fixed and were breeding and multiplying inside.

Building Inspector Joseph Warner said you could smell urine from the outside.

“The animals were relieving themselves all over the building. The smell of cat urine literally would burn your nose and eyes and they were living in it,” he said.

Some of the cats were euthanized and many will need medical care because of a flea infestation.

The home owner is not facing charges and officials say there are no signs of animal neglect.
