Annual Police Roadcheck Sees Close to 800 Violations in Rhode Island

Rhode Island State Police say their annual roadcheck operation netted close to 800 violations over a three-day period.

State police and inspectors from local police departments inspected more than 400 commercial vehicles between Tuesday and Thursday. Inspectors found more than 565 vehicle violations and 116 driver violations.

State police say 62 vehicles were taken out of service for issues such as flat tires, inoperable turn signals or inoperable air breaks.

Twenty-four drivers were taken out of service for violations such as driving too many hours or not maintaining proper log books.

The operation is sponsored by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance, and it is designed to make sure commercial vehicles do not pose a danger to other motorists.
