Arrest Made in Death of Pregnant Rhode Island Woman

Rhode Island police have made an arrest in the death of a pregnant woman found in a burning Cranston home last week.

Cranston police chief Col. Michael Winquist has scheduled a Wednesday news conference to discuss the case.

The name of the person arrested was not immediately released, but Winquist says an afternoon arraignment is expected.

The victim, identified as Aliss Collins, was found by firefighters inside a third-floor apartment of the burning house on Friday. The 32-year-old pregnant woman was taken to Rhode Island Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Winquist said the unborn child did not survive.

Residents who lived in the building's second-floor apartment escaped unharmed. The first floor was vacant.
