Body Found at RI High School, Classes Delayed: District

A Rhode Island town on Wednesday delayed school for an hour after the school district said a dead body was located near a high school.

North Smithfield Public Schools said what appeared to be a body was spotted near North Smithfield High School by a bus driver. After it was confirmed to be a body, school was delayed by an hour at the schools in the district.

The school said the body was not that of a student and that authorities were immediately notified.

“While we realize that delaying of school was last minute, we wanted to allow the police time to do their work, which is in this case, was best done without students watching,” the district said in a Facebook post.

“Due to transportation schedules we could not have delayed just the middle and high schools.”

Additional information was not immediately available.
