Body Found in Water Near Providence Park

Police said it wasn't clear who the person was, how they died or how long the body was in the water.

Medical examiners are trying to identify a body that was discovered in waters off a Providence city park.

First responders found the body in the Providence River off Collier Point Park on Saturday afternoon after someone reported seeing it in the water.

The Providence Journal reports that police and firefighters searched the river for about two hours before finding the body just before 4 p.m.

Police said it wasn't clear who the person was, how they died or how long the body was in the water.

Medical examiners will be performing an autopsy and other tests.
