Body of R.I. Soldier Killed in Afghanistan Returns Home

The body of an Army Green Beret who was killed in Afghanistan has been returned to his home state of Rhode Island.

First Sgt. Peter Andrew McKenna Jr. died Aug. 7 in Kabul during an attack on a NATO facility.

The body of the 35-year-old Bristol native arrived Friday at the Quonset State Airport in North Kingstown. The Providence Journal reports that police officers and others paid their respects to the 17-year Army veteran as a procession moved through Rhode Island.

A funeral Mass is scheduled for Monday at St. Mary of the Bay Church in Warren. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.

A wake has been scheduled for Sunday at the same church from 3 to 8 p.m.

State flags are flying at half-staff.
