Boy Rescued After Falling Through Ice at Pond

Fire Capt. David Chartier says two boys wandered onto the ice on Monday afternoon

A boy has been rescued after falling through the ice at a remote Smithfield, Rhode Island, pond.

Fire Capt. David Chartier says two boys wandered onto the ice on Monday afternoon. After one of the boys fell through, they called for help and a neighbor helped pull the boy to safety.

The boy was taken to Hasbro Children's Hospital. His condition wasn't immediately known.

Officials are urging people to avoid stepping on icy lakes or ponds unless officials declare it safe for recreation.
