Children's Hospital Worker Faces Child Porn Charges

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children has suspended David Lavoie, a sleep technologist, without pay

A Rhode Island man who worked as a sleep technologist at a children's hospital has been charged with possessing child pornography.

State police say 52-year-old David Lavoie, of Johnston, was arrested Wednesday. He was released on $10,000 bail after a court appearance. He did not enter a plea and was referred to the public defender's office.

Police started investigating after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children reported that someone was allegedly trading child pornography on the internet, and the corresponding internet address was traced to Lavoie's home.

Police say Lavoie works as a pediatric sleep technologist at Hasbro Children's Hospital in Providence. There are no indications of inappropriate behavior involving Hasbro patients.

The hospital in a statement said it was "deeply concerned" by the allegations and suspended Lavoie without pay.
