Coventry, RI Standoff Lasting 34 Hours Comes to an End

Police say Larry LaChance, 60, refused to leave the home

Police in Coventry, Rhode Island, say a standoff at a home that lasted more than 34 hours has come to an end. 

According to necn affiliate WJAR, the standoff began Wednesday at 9 a.m. at a home on Raccoon Run Road as police responded to a "domestic disturbance." 

Police say Larry LaChance, 60, refused to leave the home. 

Over the course of 34 hours police used tear gas, negotiation and tools to keep him awake. He eventually peacefully surrendered. 

LaChance is facing charges of domestic disorderly conduct, domestic failure to relinquish a phone and discharge of a firearm in close quarters. 

He will be arraigned in court Monday. It's not clear if he has an attorney.
