Democratic Donor, Rhode Island Delegate and Clinton Friend Mark Weiner Dies

Mark Weiner (WY'-ner), a major Democratic fundraiser, Clinton supporter and delegate to the Democratic National Convention, has died.

Rhode Island Democratic Party Chairman Joe McNamara confirmed Weiner's death on Tuesday.

Weiner's friend, former Providence Mayor Joe Paolino, told several news outlets he died Tuesday morning in Newport as he prepared to head to the convention.

His cause of death was not immediately known, but Weiner had been treated for years for leukemia.

Weiner's company, Financial Innovations, has for decades made campaign merchandise such as t-shirts and buttons for the Democratic National Convention and political candidates including President Barack Obama and current presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. He is a longtime friend of the Clintons.

He has held leadership positions throughout the Democratic Party and was involved in presidential campaigns since 1976.
