Driver Charged With DUI After Hitting Pedestrian

A woman has been charged with DUI after she hit a pedestrian and flipped her car while leaving a nightclub early Saturday morning in Cranston, Rhode Island.

Police say 49-year-old Lorna Grassel was under the influence of drugs or alcohol when she left Club Mardi Gras on Oaklawn Avenue. As she tried to leave the parking lot, she struck a male pedestrian, who hit his head on the roof and was thrown, landing between two parked cars.

The victim was taken to Rhode Island Hospital. His injuries are not considering life-threatening.

According to police, Grassel kept moving forward and hit a retaining wall before flipping the car on its side.

When Cranston Police responded around 1 a.m., they had to break a window to get Grassel out. She showed obvious signs of impairment and refused a chemical test.

Grassel was arraigned Saturday and released on personal recognizance. She will appear in court in Warwick at a later date.
