Driver Killed After Plunging Into Barrington River in Rhode Island

A fatal crash involving a vehicle submerged in a river in Barrington, Rhode Island is under investigation.

Officers responded New Meadow Road just before 11:30 p.m. Monday where police said a vehicle had somehow hit a telephone pole and flipped over into the Barrington River.

Fire officials said an off-duty firefighter and two police officers removed the driver from the submerged vehicle.

The name of the victim was not made public.

The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation.
