Ex-Nightclub Worker Claims Officer Brutalized Her

A former member of the security staff at a shuttered Providence, Rhode Island, nightclub has filed suit alleging she was brutalized by officers.

The Providence Journal reports
Kali Reis filed the lawsuit in federal court against former Patrolman Gregory Daniels, the department and its command staff. The 29-year-old Providence woman says Chief Hugh Clements and others kept customs and policies in place that led to her being beaten, repeatedly pepper sprayed and handcuffed in the back of a police wagon following a fight at the now-closed Club Karma.

Reis says the actions of Daniels and the department represented a knowing, willful and reckless disregard of her right to be free of excessive force by police.

She is seeking unspecified damages.

Providence Police officials declined to comment on the case.
