House Explodes in RI; Cause Under Investigation

A house has apparently exploded in Rhode Island but there were no reports of injuries.

The Block Island Times reports that the house in the town of New Shoreham exploded at about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The house was empty at the time.

The Times' website had pictures of the home collapsed with debris scattered across the yard.

A dispatcher with New Shoreham police and fire said no one was available to provide details and deferred questions to the state fire marshal's office.

The state fire marshal is on the way to the scene to investigate. A call to that office was not immediately returned.

New Shoreham is the smallest town in the state and the only town on the island
