Lawmakers to Skydive to Support RI Food Bank

An undertaker, a chaplain and a soldier walk onto a plane, and then promptly jump out.

That's no joke, but something scheduled to really happen Sunday in Rhode Island.

Eight state lawmakers, a lawmaker's wife and a former legislator are skydiving to raise money for the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.

Rep. Robert Nardolillo, the organizer, works at his family's funeral home. The participants include Rep. Robert Lancia, a former Navy chaplain, and Rep. James McLaughlin, an Army veteran.

Nardolillo is thrilled with the turnout.

He says he hoped for six participants, after all, they're not "kayaking for a cause."

House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello politely declined. He joked he's reluctant to skydive with an undertaker.

Food bank CEO Andrew Schiff says it's a novel, exciting way to publicize the cause.
