Man Sentenced to Prison in Sex Trafficking Case

Damien Beverly of Providence was sentenced Tuesday to more than seven years in prison

A Rhode Island man who admitted to taking two women from Massachusetts to Rhode Island to engage in prostitution and paying them in heroin is headed to prison.

The Providence Journal reports Damien Beverly of Providence was sentenced Tuesday to more than seven years in prison.

Beverly previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy, transportation to engage in prostitution and conspiracy to distribute heroin.

Prosecutors say 30-year-old Beverly met one victim in Boston in 2014 and brought her to a hotel room in Warwick, where he persuaded her to post an online advertisement offering to engage in sex for a fee. Authorities say all the money went to Beverly, who provided the woman with heroin.

Prosecutors say he did the same with a second woman he met in Boston that year.
