Rhode Island Family Seeks Thief Who Stole Car, Teen's Medical Device

A Rhode Island family needs the public's help in finding the thief who took their car, along with a medical device for their son.

Alexandra Monterio told WJAR-TV she left her Lexus briefly unattended outside the family's Pawtucket home on Rhodes Street on Wednesday morning so that she could help her son, who is using crutches.

When Monterio went back outside, the car was gone, along with many valuable items.

"My son's backpack. His glasses. His laptop for school. His machine that's very important to me," Monteiro said to WJAR-TV.

She said the medical device for her 16-year-old son, Joelante, is needed for a surgery he recently had.

"He needs that machine to lengthen his bones... for his legs to be even," she said.

Monterio said before she went inside the house, she only saw a teenager around. She told police that the teenager had light skin and long hair. He was wearing a black hoodie and black pants.

The Rhode Island license plate of the family's stolen maroon Lexus is A-F 877. Anyone with information on the vehicle or suspect is urged to contact police.
