More Than 50 Animals Found Living in Deplorable Conditions

Police say they found more than 50 animals living in deplorable conditions at a Rhode Island home.

Pawtucket Detective Sgt. Christopher LeFort says six dogs, 12 birds, 13 ferrets, 20 mice, and three hamsters were removed from the home on Wednesday by Pawtucket Animal Control and the Rhode Island Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

He says officers were called to the home to address code and zoning issues.

Two elderly residents of the home were assisted by the state Elderly Affairs Unit, the state Senior Services, and the Pawtucket Senior Services.

Their names have not been made public and they have not been charged.
