Motorist Arrested for Alleged Violation of Travel Ban

Rhode Island State Police say they've arrested a motorist for driving while the statewide travel ban was in effect during the winter storm

Rhode Island State Police say they've arrested a motorist for driving while the statewide travel ban was in effect during the winter storm.

R.I. State Police Col. Steven O'Donnell told WPRI that a trooper arrested an unidentified male driver at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday for violating Gov. Gina Raimondo's executive order banning motorists from state roadways between midnight and 8 p.m. Tuesday.

O'Donnell said the trooper clocked the motorist traveling at more than 80 mph on Interstate 95 in Warwick. Troopers say he also had an outstanding arrest warrant.

It was not immediately known Wednesday what the charge was.

Officials in snow-affected states insisted on keeping roads clear for plows and emergency vehicles.
