Nearly 850 Grams of Heroin Seized After Traffic Stop

A routine traffic stop has led to a significant heroin bust.

Rhode Island State Police say officers were conducting a motor vehicle stop on Route 146 around North Smithfield on Friday when they found five ounces of heroin.

State police inquired into the source of the heroin eventually identified a "stash house" at 175 Russo St. in Providence.

Armed with a search warrant, police seized another 700 grams of heroin, packaging material, scales and other evidence. Police say the drugs seized are valued at about $55,000.

The two men arrested in the initial traffic stop are currently in custody.

Dider Del Villa Rosa, 36, of New York, and Tomas Rosado Melendez, 31, of Philadelphia, will be formally arraigned Monday on charges including heroin possession with intent to deliver.
