New Biomedical Center to Open in Rhode Island

A Rhode Island developer has announced plans for a new biomedical facility.

Warwick Mayor Joseph Solomon and Johnston-based Carpionato Group unveiled the design for the Ortho Rhode Island facility Wednesday. The three-story, 100,000 square-foot building will house a medical office and surgery center.

The Warwick Planning Board has approved the project. City officials say it will add over $25 million in assessed value to Warwick's tax rolls and provide 275 jobs.

Carpionato Group CEO Alfred Carpionato says the new biomedical campus is a "smart economic development" that helps both Warwick and the state.

Ortho Rhode Island Executive Director Mary-Ellen Ashe says the facility's location is accessible to patients.
