Police say a person of interest in a Providence, Rhode Island, homicide is in custody after leading officers on a chase, totaling his vehicle and crashing into three others.
Maj. David Lapatin says the man was arrested following the multi-vehicle crash in Providence on Monday afternoon. He will be questioned about the slaying of 36-year-old Adalberto Martinez, who was found shot to death inside an auto body shop on Friday.
Affiliate WJAR reports the man has been identified as Hierberro Rivera.
Lapatin says officers had been looking for a red car in connection with the homicide investigation. He says a patrol officer spotted the car and a chase ensued. The vehicle sped through an intersection crashed into three other cars.
He says the driver and his two passengers were hospitalized for non-life-threatening injuries.
Rivera is set to appear in court Tuesday to be questioned about the slaying.
