Authorities say a pilot suffered minor injuries when a twin-engine plane went off the runway at Westerly State Airport in Rhode Island after an emergency landing.

The Federal Aviation Administration says the pilot experienced problems with his right engine after takeoff. The FAA says the plane's landing gear malfunctioned when it landed at about 9:30 a.m. Monday.

Images from the scene show the Piper Seneca aircraft resting on its belly in a grassy area off the runway.

Normal airport operations resumed shortly after the accident.
