A police pursuit in Providence, Rhode Island, came to an end early Friday morning after police say the driver of a vehicle opened fire on officers.
According to necn affiliate WJAR, the incident began on Broad Street after officers responded to a fight involving two people in a parking lot when a crowd spilled over from the Aqua Lounge.
As officers dispersed the crowd, shots were fired from a sedan, which sped off.
Police pursued the vehicle throughout Providence before ending the chase on Route 10 after the driver hit a wire median and lost control.
The driver, identified as Larenta Draper, was arrested, and police say he was originally involved in the fight. A handgun was removed from his vehicle.
He is charged with felony assault with a dangerous weapon, several weapon related charges and resisting arrest.
Draper is set to be arraigned Friday. It was not immediately known if he has a lawyer.
