Police Seek Man Who Attacked Pregnant Woman in Rhode Island Home Invasion

Police are searching for the suspect who allegedly attacked a pregnant woman and her young son at their Coventry, Rhode Island home Monday afternoon.

WJAR-TV reports surveillance video captured the home invasion at the New London Turnpike residence in broad daylight.

Vanessa Lechance, who is 7 months pregnant, said she heard a loud bang while she and her 8-year-old son were in a bedroom. She said she initially thought it was her mother coming home.

"I opened my door to find out what was going on and at that point, the assailant came out of her room and met me in the hallway and he pushed me out of the way back into my son’s room," Lechance told WJAR-TV. "Then, I pushed him back and he punched my face."

The man was captured on home surveillance running out of the house and fleeing the scene in an orange Hyundai SUV.

Lechance and her son waited inside her son's bedroom until police arrived.

She said he did not end up taking anything from the house.

Police are investigating whether the suspect is connected to other area house breaks in East and West Greenwich in the last week.

The suspect is described as a man in his 30s with a medium build and dark hair. He was wearing a yellow baseball hate and white sweatshirt in the surveillance video.

Anyone with information on the suspect's identity is urged to contact Coventry Police Department at 401-826-1100 or email tips@coventrypd.org.
