The lights are back on for most of Rhode Island after about 8,000 National Grid customers lost power during a rainstorm that blew through the state with high winds.

National Grid spokesman David Graves says 8,300 customers, mostly in Tiverton and Westerly, lost power Thursday morning. The peak of the outages happened around 4:45 a.m.

He says Tiverton was back up by 5:15, and Westerly was up by 6:05 a.m.

Only around 400 customers were without power at midmorning.

Graves says there may be outages here and there if more tree limbs are knocked down, but it appeared the worst of the storm was over.
