A Rhode Island Department of Corrections officer has been charged with driving under the influence after a weekend crash in West Greenwich

A Rhode Island Department of Corrections officer has been charged with driving under the influence after a weekend crash in West Greenwich.

Police say 54-year-old Paul Bartholomy was driving a vehicle that struck another from behind on Old Raccoon Hill Road at about 1:30 a.m. on Sunday. They say four people suffered minor injuries in the accident.

Police say Bartholomy was arrested at the scene after failing a field sobriety test and charged with DUI and refusing to submit to a chemical test.

Department of Corrections spokeswoman Susan Lamkins says Bartholomy, a captain, reported the incident to the DOC.

Bartholomy did not immediately return a telephone message Thursday seeking comment.

He is due in Kent County Court on May 6.
