Providence Bar Closes Temporarily Following Stabbing

The Rock & Rye bar in Providence has been temporarily closed following Saturday night's stabbing.

The Providence Board of Licenses has temporary closed a Rhode Island bar following a stabbing Saturday night.

Police say a 26-year-old man was stabbed around 10 p.m. Saturday outside of the Rock & Rye Bar, in an area where people had gathered for the Federal Hill Summer Festival earlier in the day.

Providence Police Col. Hugh Clements says investigators do not believe the stabbing is connected to the festival. Clements says the victim is in good condition.

Police say an investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made.

The bar was ordered to close for 72 hours pending another board hearing later this week.

Staff members at Rock & Rye declined to comment on the closure.
