Providence Man Sentenced for Robbing 4 Banks in 4 Days

A Providence man who admitted to robbing four banks in four days is headed to prison.

U.S. Attorney Peter Neronha's office says that 39-year-old Vaughn Watrous was sentenced last week to 92 months in prison and a year of supervised release after his prison term.

He was also ordered to pay nearly $5,000 in restitution to the banks he admitted to robbing.

Watrous pleaded guilty in October to robbing two banks in Cranston and two in Providence over a four-day span in February 2013.

Prosecutors say that in each instance, Watrous passed a note to the teller saying it was a robbery and demanding large bills. They were told not to trip the alarm.

Police arrested him after the fourth robbery in Cranston when he left a nearby store.
