Dozens of people reportedly went to Providence Municipal Court on Monday to challenge speeding tickets issued by the city's new speeding cameras, and the move came as the city considers whether to install more cameras.
There have been 12,000 speeding tickets issued since the cameras were installed, according to WJAR. Each comes with a fine of $95.
One woman told WJAR that her son had received five tickets.
Some of Monday's petitioners were successful. The judge dismissed three of them, saying the machine had malfunctioned.
Providence City Council is reportedly introducing a resolution next week to obtain more information about the cameras' functionality before installing more. Out of the 15 planned traffic cameras, eleven are currently operational.
