Reputed Gang Member Gets 4 Years for Gun, Drug Charges

Judge William Smith told 25-year-old Antonio Fortes "you've made a lot of bad choices" when handing down the sentence Thursday

An alleged member of the YNIC gang in Rhode Island  has been sentenced to four years in prison by a federal judge on firearms and drug trafficking charges.

The Providence Journal reports
Judge William Smith told 25-year-old Antonio Fortes "you've made a lot of bad choices" when handing down the sentence Thursday.

Fortes was charged with possession of heroin and crack cocaine with intent to deliver and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Milind Shah says Fortes will be taken into state custody, where he is expected to cooperate in the prosecution of an October 2014 killing that he was allegedly involved in.

Fortes' attorney emphasized Thursday that his client is only accused of placing an alert call to a group of people in the murder case.
