Rhode Island Celebrating National Trails Day with Hiking Tours

The state is hosting guided hiking tours to celebrate National Trails Day.

The American Hiking Society's National Trails Day is a celebration of the nation's trail system. It's held annually on the first Saturday in June.

The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management is offering tours at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. on Saturday at the John H. Chafee Nature Preserve in North Kingstown and at 1 p.m. at the Cumberland Monastery.

The preserve tour departs from the parking area on Boston Neck Road. The monastery tour departs from the gazebo near the Cumberland Senior Center.

The department is also offering a tour at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Browning Mill Pond in Hopkinton.

The tour departs from the parking area at Tefft Hill Road and Arcadia Road.
