Rhode Island City Board Orders Closure of Nightclub After Shooting

The Providence Board of Licenses has ordered a city nightclub to remain closed until at least next week while police investigate a shooting.

The Providence Board of Licenses unanimously authorized a 72-hour shutdown of Ultra nightclub on Saturday night. The Providence Journal reports at an emergency hearing on Monday, Associate City Solicitor Mario Martone asked for the club to remain closed until a hearing on Oct. 10 and while police review evidence from the club.

Steven Wright, an attorney representing Ultra's manager, Frank Capone, said he and his client had nothing to add after the hearing.

Early Saturday, a 22-year-old man was shot in the chest at Ultra. The unidentified victim is currently in stable condition, and police have not announced any arrests.
