Rhode Island Teen Turns Self in After High School Teacher Struck, Killed

Police say a Providence woman has turned herself in, saying she fatally struck a high school teacher and fled the scene.

The Providence Journal reports that Tarchae Powell was charged with due care by operator and failure to yield right of way to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

School officials say Anne-Marie Dansicker of Mt. Pleasant High School in Providence died after being struck at about 5 p.m. Wednesday. Police say the 19-year-old Powell turned herself in about two hours later.

It was not known Thursday night if she is represented by a lawyer.

Dansicker was struck outside the school where co-workers said she stayed late to tutor on her own time.

Police have asked the state attorney general's office to review the case. An investigation continues.
