Rhode Island Nurses Union: We're Not Ready to Deal With Ebola Case

In United Nurses and Allied Professionals survey, 80 percent said they're not prepared or more should be done at their hospital

Nurses in Rhode Island say they aren't ready to deal with a case of Ebola.

The United Nurses and Allied Professionals released the results of an internal survey on Ebola preparedness Monday. The regional union represents about 6,500 health care professionals.

Of the 359 people who responded in Rhode Island, 80 percent said they either are not prepared or there is more that should be done at their hospital to treat a patient with Ebola.

Nearly half said they had not been told about the appropriate procedures and protocols. More than half said they don't think they will have access to the proper protective equipment. The union is asking state officials to take action.

The Rhode Island Department of Health director has said he believes the state is well prepared.
