Rhode Island Teacher Charged with Sexually Assaulting Woman at Bar

Brendan Friel has been suspended without pay from his job

A Rhode Island teacher is charged with sexually assaulting a woman at a bar earlier this month.

Brendan Friel is charged with second degree sexual assault, according to WJAR-TV. He was arraigned last week and is scheduled to return to court on Oct. 19.

Friel, a social studies teacher at Toll Gate High School in Warwick, is accused of sexually assaulting a 29-year-old woman at O'Rourke's bar in Warwick on Sept. 12. He allegedly followed the woman after she moved to a different section of the bar to get away from him and then shoved his hand under the woman's bottom and touched her inappropriately.

He has been suspended without pay, and the Warwick superintendent said there will be a future review in front of the school committee.
