Rhode Island has been awarded $250,000 in federal funding to care for youths with substance abuse disorders.

The Providence Journal reports that state officials announced the funding Tuesday for the state's Department of Behavioral, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals to plan and implement the Rhode Island Youth Treatment Planning project.

The project aims to improve substance abuse and mental health services for youths.

Gov. Raimondo says that the funding and the Children's Cabinet - a group that provides advice on children's services and welfare -will help improve services for families.

The funding will be provided by the U.S Health and Human Services' Center for Substance Abuse Treatment.
