RI Foundation Offers More Than $1.8M in College Scholarships

The foundation expects to help hundreds of students

The Rhode Island Foundation is offering more than $1.8 million in college scholarships to students living in the state.

The foundation says that dozens of individuals, families and organizations have donated to establish scholarship funds at the foundation to help students defray educational expenses.

Foundation president and CEO Neil Steinberg says the impact of their generosity will ripple across the state for generations as these students make their marks.

The foundation expects to help hundreds of students.

It offers general scholarship assistance, as well as assistance based on areas of study, hometown, gender, family income and other factors.

The Holly Charette Scholarship Fund supports residents of Coventry and Cranston, for example. The scholarship is named for a 21-year-old Marine from Cranston who was killed in Iraq in 2005.
