Superman Building Tops List of Most Endangered Buildings

The 91-year-old skyscraper is Rhode Island's tallest building

Preservationists say Providence's iconic Superman Building is still facing the kryptonite of neglect.

The landmark formally known as the Industrial Trust Building tops the Providence Preservation Society's list of most endangered properties for 2019.

The 91-year-old skyscraper, Rhode Island's tallest building, got its nickname because of its resemblance to the Daily Planet headquarters in the old TV show. It's been vacant for more than five years.

The Preservation Society has compiled a list of capital landmarks threatened by deterioration or demolition for the past 25 years.

Other buildings on its latest list include the William R. Babcock II House, the Rialto Theatre, the Broad Street Synagogue and St. Teresa of Avila Church.

Among the oldest is the Richard Brown House on the east side, built in 1731.
