Teen Sentenced in Triple Homicide

19-year-old Russell Burrell sentenced to six life sentences plus another 10 years in prison

A 19-year-old has been sentenced to six life sentences plus another 10 years in prison for the shooting deaths of three people in a Providence, Rhode Island, apartment.

Russell Burrell was sentenced Monday in Superior Court on three counts of murder, three counts of unlawful use of a firearm and conspiracy.

His lawyer, Jay Canham, says four life sentences are consecutive and two are concurrent, and Burrell won't be eligible for parole until his mid-90s. He says Burrell is remorseful and pleaded guilty to spare the families the pain of a trial.

Burrell and three other men were charged in the killings of Shemeeka Barros, Michael Martin and Damien Colon during a robbery attempt in July 2012.

Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin says the sentence ensures that Burrell won't endanger the community.
