A wild car chase and dramatic shootout in Rhode Island landed a wanted California man in the hospital Monday afternoon.
Police in Warwick spotted a suspicious vehicle and proceeded to stop the driver. Kenneth Cunningham, the driver, allegedly sped off when he noticed the authorities.
The 39-year-old later abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot. He then exchanged gunfire with three police officers before he was subdued.
Witnesses in the areas were scared for their life. "So everyone ran around locking doors. It was kind of frantic and everyone was terrified at first," said one bystander.
Cunningham was struck by multiple bullets. He was wanted on a murder charge in California.
There's no word on Cunningham's current condition.
