Rhode Island Teacher, Coach Facing Child Porn Charges: Police

Police say Richard Conti, of Warwick, is teacher at Hoxsie Elementary School and coach at Pilgrim High School

A Rhode Island teacher and coach faced a judge Tuesday for the alleged possession of child pornography.

Richard Conti, 69, of Warwick, was arraigned on the charge in Third Division District Court where the judge set bail at $2,500. Conti was also ordered to have no contact with minors and limited internet use.

State police said a recent investigation by Rhode Island Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force members was conducted. On Tuesday, ICAC Task Force members executed a search warrant at Conti's home and identified him as the alleged owner of digital media in possession of child pornography.

Conti was then arrested.

Police said Conti is currently a fifth-grade teacher at the Contrell F. Hoxsie Elementary School in Warwick where he has worked for the past 21 years. He is also the assistant coach of the varsity girls' softball team at Pilgrim High School in Warwick. Authorities said Conti is also an umpire for local sports.

It's unclear when Conti will be back in court or if he has an attorney.
