Woman Arrested in Connection With Neglected Cat Found in Cardboard Box in Warwick

Rhode Island police have made an arrest in connection with a cat that was found outside with its fur frozen to the inside of a cardboard box.

The Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals says a Warwick woman was arrested Tuesday and charged with abandonment of an infirm animal and unnecessary cruelty.

The cat was found Thursday near a trash bin outside a Warwick apartment building. An animal hospital had to shave more than 11 pounds of matted fur off the cat, and it is being treated for an eye infection and other medical issues.

The RISPCA previously offered a $500 reward for information in the case. It is unclear if anyone has received the reward.
