A Massachusetts man died following a serious crash involving several vehicles on Interstate 95 Thursday night in Sharon, state police said.
The crash happened around 7:45 p.m. on I-95 southbound near Exit 17 and caused length traffic delays, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation and Massachusetts State Police confirmed. Three people were sent to local hospitals after the wreck.
State police said Friday a 24-year-old Mansfield man had died from his injuries after being taken to Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was identified as Jordan McGrath-Edlund.
The two other people who were hurt were taken to Rhode Island Hospital, one with potentially serious injuries, another with minor injuries, state police said.
According to a preliminary investigation, McGrath-Edlund was behind the wheel of a 2013 BMW as he was traveling fast and changing lanes. His BMW hit a Subaru station wagon and a Honda CRV, causing the three vehicles to roll over, state police said.
All southbound lanes were closed following the crash, and traffic was being detoured to Exit 19. Drivers were encouraged to seek an alternate route in the area.
Pictures from I-95 showed cars at a standstill, with several people standing outside of their vehicles.
A picture from the scene also showed a badly damaged car that had rolled over and landed upside down, with shattered glass covering the surrounding roadway.
The fatal crash remains under investigation.
