Splendid Friday and Saturday…Showers Sunday

5-20 wx

Bright and mild conditions for New England today come courtesy of an area of high pressure building across the Northeast United States, sure to lock in a nice Saturday, too.

There are some subtle features you'll notice - smoke from wildfires in Canada have added a white appearance to the sky for many today, and high altitude clouds will slowly lower and thicken Saturday, dimming the sunshine in advance of approaching rain.

High temperatures into the 70s Friday and Saturday will make for two delightful days ahead of rain associated with a developing storm along the Eastern Seaboard - that rain arrives to Southern Connecticut Saturday evening and spreads through Southern New England overnight Saturday night.

With a storm center sitting off the coast Sunday, it'll be pretty tough to shake clouds, cool air and some occasional showers in Eastern New England, and while Western New England has a better chance of breaking out some sun, instability aloft will only make that sun self-destructive, brewing up some new showers or a thunderstorm during the afternoon.

Enough upper atmospheric energy and cool air lingers Monday and Tuesday for a few showers to pop up again, especially in Southern New England, then a nice day is expected Wednesday. Heading into the Memorial Day holiday weekend, it still looks like the chance for afternoon showers and thunder increases, but relatively mild air expected to continue with highs in the 70s.
