A steer replica that was stolen from in front of a Greene, Maine store last month has been recovered.

According to Maine State Police, the resin replica steer, known locally as "Charlie," had been in front of Town and Country Foods, a local food distributor, for several decades. The steer was stolen in July, and had such sentimental value that the owner offered a $500 reward for its return.

Last week, state police received a call that Charlie was on a small island off the Androscoggin River in Auburn. A Maine warden transported several troopers via boat to the island, where the steer was located and returned home to Town and Country Foods.
