Sunday Super Moon

The Sunday night super moon excited people across New England

'They said' moonrise at 7:35, but we could not see until 7:47. Glad the crowd stayed calm. And it was a remarkable crowd that showed up.

When the moon first became visible it was already about a fist width above the horizon.
Why could we not see the moon until 10 minutes after it came up?

Because of natural pollution. That haze was mostly smoke from fires (set by lighting) burning in Canada. Also the fact we had moonrise before sunset played a role. Tonight, if sky is clear we may have better moonrise. There may still be smoke in the sky, but it will be darker as the moonrises at 8:15, give or take depending on your location.
